Job Description

Objective:
At Pipestone, we believe in creating a culture where all team members can safely and effectively complete their jobs while helping us meet our overall mission of Helping Farmers Today Create the Farms of Tomorrow. The Safety Manager plays a key part in establishing and maintaining this culture, creating a training plan to implement, as well as a proper follow-up channels to determine areas for improvement, and appropriate training to prevent future risks.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall implementation of the Pipestone safety program to ensure all employees are properly trained in the safety aspects of their position, all facilities and equipment are in safe working condition and in compliance with all OSHA regulations.
  • Setting general safety training protocols and follow up processes.
  • Create and implement a new team member safety orientation program.
  • Provide a way to celebrate and recognize team members living a culture of safety.
  • Arrange for recognition plaques and annual safety awards for those farm locations that were injury free at the end of each calendar year.
  • Analyze claims and provide feedback on corrective action. Monitor claims to help ensure timely closures.
  • Calculate OSHA recordable injury rates and report to upper management along with trend information and plan for improved safety performance.
  • Monitoring workers’ compensation leave and benefit eligibility while maintaining compliance within each states leave requirements.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Post-secondary safety training and/or on the job safety and training experience.
  • Associate Safety Professional and Certified Safety Professional accreditation preferred.
  • OSHA 10 Hour training course certification.

Work Environment:

  • Agricultural swine environment in rural area
  • Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas
  • Gestation, farrowing, and small swine care processes

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting of objects weighing 3-20 pounds
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to attend and participate in meetings of various lengths

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to work and attend meetings

Compensation/Benefits:

  • Compensation rate of $65,000-$75,000 base salary, depending on experience
